Wow, wonder how you managed to find the time- will definitely read this
Hi,
It is a stupendous effort indeed. Congratualtions.
I hold Kalki in highest esteem as the greatest Tamil writer for his master pieces of Historicals, Short stories with powerful social impact (eg. “Kedariyin Thayar” – I rate them on par with Sharad Chandra), essays with lot of humour (eg. “Tirumayilai Vadapureeshwarar”), music criticisms etc.
This historical was finished as a serial before I was born, but I read it absorbingly as a school boy in our village panchayat library in book form.
Even as a student I was intrigued by the defeat of Harshavardhana the mighty emperor at the hands of Deccan king Pulakesi II who in turn was humbled by still smaller king Mahendra Pallava! He wove a beautifully absorbing story taking us back to those days. As a boy I have read & reread some chapters many times such as his encounter with Paranjothi the innocent messenger, disguised as Vajra Bahu and particularly their jointly disposing of an attack by a group, Mayursimha’s story etc which are still green in my memory.
While Mami and I studied in Tamil medium & hence could derive the benefit of reading such great works in original, I am sorry all our 3 children could not be so fortunate as they studied in Mumbai. But I am glad that such painstaking efforts by people like you through translations would compensate for it in providing an opportunity to get to know such things.
We will also read the English version and get back.
With best wishes,
S.G.subramanian
wow my daughter would love to read this. she does not know tamizh.but loves to read a lot.
Nandini – this is amazing! When on earth do you find the time. You have provided access to a piece of literature which was previously inaccessible for me and I thank you for that! I am also very much looking forward to reading it!
Thanks nandini . I have heard stories of Sivakamiyin sabadham as a child from my mother, but could not read the novel since I didn’t know to read Tamil. Thanks for translating it to English.
Hello Madam,
Came to know this link just today as I was looking for Sivakaminyin Sabadam. My tamil is not very strong. But I am a big big fan of Ponniyin Selvan. Have read and re read the english translation many times. I was looking for Sivakaminyin Sabadam for years and found this today. Are the books available in bookstores in India? Has all the 4 parts been published?
Want to say thank you for all the effort you have put in… Will be a great blessing for ppl like me who want to enjoy Tamil literature. My next biggest dream is to read Silapathikaram (ofcourse in english).. may be one day my tamil will be good enough for me to read all these in Tamil itself
Thanks for the time to reply.
